Cranberry Scones

Cranberry Scones
8 servings

2 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter flavored shortening
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
2/3 cup dried cranberries (craisins)
cinnamon and sugar for topping

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg and cream; stir into crumb mixture just until blended. Stir in cranberries. Turn onto a floured surface; knead gently four times. Shape dough into a ball.  Pat and flatten into an 8 inch circle. With a sharp knife, score the dough into eight wedges and separate.  Place wedges onto a parchment line baking sheet, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and bake at 425° for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!

These are melt in your mouth good.  Delicious with coffee or hot tea!

Hide it in your Heart Week of September 28

I'm starting something new at Heritage Schoolhouse!

~ "Hide it in your Heart"~
"Your word I have hidden in my heart" Psalm 119:11 NKJV

Each week I will be memorizing a different scripture. Many times I have scripture memorized, but I don't always have the book, chapter, and verse memorized along with it. To learn the scripture each week, I will post the verse on Monday at Heritage Schoolhouse, print the scripture to place on my kitchen windowsill and bathroom mirror, and have the scripture at the top of Heritage Schoolhouse for the week. Seeing it in all of these places will help me to have it memorized in seven days. Memorize along with me if you would like, and if you know me in person please be sure to ask me what my verse of the week is and keep me accountable! :-)

"So then faith comes by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God."
Romans 10:17 NKJV

"This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom
but in words taught by the Spirit,
expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words."
I Corinthians 2:13 NIV

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.

"How far you go in life
depends on your being tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged,
sympathetic with the striving
and tolerant of the weak and strong.

Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."

What a treat!

A trip to Martha's Bloomers.

Featured in Southern Living magazine's list
of "Top 50 Shops" and list of "Top 10 Tea Rooms in Texas".
And home to the world's largest teapot!

Lovely blossoms

and blooms

everywhere you look.

And a cozy tea room

to enjoy lunch.
(I had the quiche and roasted red pepper soup!)

A pot of Martha's Bloomers famous
orange spice tea,

and lovely desserts

complete the visit. :-)

It's the first day of fall!

No matter how busy the day,
there are a few simple things that are
first day of fall traditions for me. :-)

using autumn paper plates at breakfast

drinking hazlenut coffee

eating honey crisp apples for snack

listening to my favorite
"autumn soundtrack"

making the house smell like
apples and cinnamon

and putting out a few more fall decorations

like this beautiful leaves and acorns plate
that my sister made for me last year
What do you like to do to celebrate the first day of fall?? :-)

It is still best to be honest and truthful;
to make the most of what we have;
to be happy with simple pleasures;
and have courage when things go wrong."

The 9/12 Project

Mr. H. and one of his brothers took part in the
September 12th
March on Washington.

A few other people were there, too. ;-)

"No people will tamely surrender their Liberties,
nor can any be easily subdued,
when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved.
On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant,
and debauched in their Manners,
they will sink... under their own weight
without the Aid of foreign Invaders."
